Coffee shop is one of ideal business for many people in
Thailand, this is also claimed by research from positioning magazine that coffee
shop owner is accounting on top 5 ideal occupation for young generation and
salary man (Positioning Magazine, 2010). The reason under this idea would be
start from passionate in coffee taste and smell to cute design of coffee shop inspired
by Korean Series (i.e. coffee prince).
On the demand side, working people know that coffee is one
of daily drink, especially in the morning and after lunch (coz it’s time to
fall asleep Lol). People consume coffee from shops; varying from walk side
kiosk to modern and luxury design, depend on different purpose and budget. Seeing
opportunity from demand in city life, it is no doubt that many people believe
this business would go well.
Turning to coffee market, market value of coffee in Thailand
is accounting on nearly 30,000 million Bath, defining as 14000 MB in 3-in-1 coffee
type market, 9000 MB in ready coffee drink etc. (Bangkokbiznews, 2011).
Meanwhile, fresh coffee shop market values more than 6000 Million bath annually
(Prachachat business online, 2011). Additionally, regarding to K-research
(2011) there are a lot opportunities in this market since coffee consumption in
Thailand is still lower than others countries in ASEAN which is about 233 cups
per year per person. Thai is also a coffee dominant country.
In competitive market of coffee shop business, owners try to
differentiate themselves in order to attract coffee lovers through design,
bakery and free wifi. Other thing to enhance customer experience by coffee
itself rather than taste and smell is art in coffee.
We always see various pictures on coffee surface such as
leaf, heart and cartoon. However I found another interesting art from coffee foam, first created by Japanese Barista, Kazuki Yamamoto. The amazing 3D coffee foam sculpture would be a new technique to add value for coffee and enhance customer experience.
Lets see this impressed sculpture process;
